Yarn Shopping

I love that they provide chairs

for waiting friends and partners

while the knitter shops

sampling

parsing

sniffing

out the wondrous string

of sheep’s clothing

that may well hide a wolf

from discovery, even by itself

a gift from God to shelter the shorn

well-worn experience

but I sit

I contemplate

the cars passing on the street outside

as minutes grow into hours

or so it seems

though I grow no older

nothing breaks down

except the ability to wait

for another skein to feed

knitting need
